PartyPoker Tour Glasgow kicked off on August 12th at Alea Casino. To everyone’s surprise the weather was scorching hot, but that did not put poker players off at all. With a total festival entries of 1928 and an incredible festival prize pool of £303,193, it was one hell of a week.
The festival opened with the Mini Main Event, which drew 468 entries and generated a prizepool of £58,406. The battle was fierce, but as with everything in poker only one can be left standing, and it was Christian Watt who took home the glory and the trophy as well as a first prize of ££10,260.
As the Mini Main Event was winding down, the £500 Main Event was building momentum. It drew 256 entries and generated a prizepool of £111,821. The story of the night, without any doubt, was the winner: Zhen Zhen, PartyPoker Tour’s first female champion. Zhen Zhen hadn’t played any previous PartyPoker events, which made the victory feel extra special—and let’s be honest, what a day for women in poker.
The festival’s tournament offering was outstanding, featuring highlights such as the Poker.PRO PL Horse, won by local Christopher Johnston, the PLO Master Main Event, the Mystery Bounty, and the Tennessee Hold’em Glasgow Championship, the very much loved Spin the Wheel, where players the Mini Main or the Main Event got to spin the wheel for free with a GTD prize. In true PartyPoker style, it was a party for all.
Familiar faces were spotted at the tables throughout the week, many of whom achieved fantastic results. Deniz Orhan, who had already secured a Main Event Trophy, came to Glasgow and won the first ever tournament in the Scottish city, how cool is that? The Main Event featured PartyPoker Team member Barry Carter, who also took down the Friday Party Madness. He was joined in the Main Event by his The Chip Race partners, David Lappin and Dara O’Kearney, adding extra excitement to the field.
Other notable runs in the Main Event came from Sam Acheapong, who finished 28th, Asif Warris who secured 24th place. Natalie Bromley, who soft-bubbled, and Glenn Brown, who cashed in multiple side events throughout the week; while Aleks Georgiev had an outstanding week, claiming not one but two trophies—the Faded Spade Trophy and the Sunday Madness title. PartyPoker Ambassador Jamie Staples also impressed, running deep and making it to two final tables in the Main Event and the High Roller. Wins all around! What a week!
Adding even more prestige, Joe Beevers, founder of The Hendon Mob, jumped into the action in the PLO Masters Main Event also making it to the final table, which boasted a £25K guarantee.
