UK Government cuts VAT in the hospitality and tourism sector

Foreign Minister Rishi Sunak recently announced an important measure for the revival of the economy, which consists of reducing VAT in the hospitality and tourism sector. More specifically, it would go from 20% to 5%, from July 15 to January 12, 2021.

Similarly, in support of employment, companies will be able to earn £ 1,000 (€ 1,112.68) for each staff member who stays for three months when the leave plan ends in October.

In response to these announcements, Michael Dugher CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) stated:
"The Chancellor’s decision to cut VAT for the hospitality and tourism sectors for the next six months will potentially be an enormous boost for bingo halls and casinos."

However, to take advantage of this new policy, casinos must be given the green light to reopen as quickly as possible in July. They can safely reopen and it's time now to let them do so."
