HAMMOND, Ind. (May 24, 2022) - The legendary Horseshoe Hammond Casino, an extraordinary 400,000-square-foot property along Lake Michigan at 777 Casino Center Drive in Hammond, Indiana, recently partnered with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to sort and pack 192 boxes of perishable foods for seniors in need as part of the Senior Pantry Pack Initiative.
The boxes will be distributed in the coming weeks. A total of 20 volunteers from the Horseshoe Hammond team assisted in the initiative. In Northwest Indiana, nearly 100,000 individuals are food insecure, meaning they lack access to nutritious foods for themselves and their families. In addition to volunteering, the Horseshoe Hammond team also donated $20,000 to further support the organization’s philanthropic efforts.
“The work that the Northwest Indiana Food Bank does throughout our communities is vitally important, and Horseshoe Hammond is excited to help support the Senior Pantry Pack Initiative,” said Noah Hirsch, Horseshoe Hammond Casino Vice President and Assistant General Manager. “Our team was appreciative to have the opportunity to tour the Food Bank, pack boxes, and play a part in the fight against food insecurities in our community. Giving back to the community plays a leading role in Horseshoe Hammond’s overall mission. This past year alone, the team at Horseshoe Hammond donated over $150,000 by ways of financial contributions and in-kind items, as well as volunteered over 2,500 hours. In addition to partnering with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, other local organizations Horseshoe Hammond has teamed up with include Haven House Foundation, Salvation Army, Mental Health America of Northwest Indiana, Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, and South Shore Arts, among others.
This month, the Horseshoe Hammond team assembled 200 hygiene kits for national enterprise Clean the World and those will be donated to St. Jude in Crown Point, IN. Additionally, Horseshoe Hammond has partnered with Meals on Wheels and will begin meal deliveries in June. Future community events will also include a project with Habitat for Humanity and a Relay for Life event with American Cancer Society.
