THE STAR GOLD COAST IS DEALT A ROYAL FLUSH, HOSTING THE WORLD POKER TOUR MAIN TOUR THIS SEPTEMBER

In a coup for local poker fans, The Star Gold Coast is set to host the World Poker Tour’s Main Tour stop this September, the first time the prestigious global poker tournament’s Main Tour has been hosted in Australia in its 20-year history.

Warmly welcoming card sharks from across the country and the world to the Sunshine State, the World Poker Tour (WPT) event at The Star Gold Coast also marks the only stop on the Main Tour throughout the entire Asia Pacific region this year.

The Gold Coast icon first rolled out the red carpet for the World Poker Tour in October 2019, with the historic deal marking the first ever WPT Australia event held in the country and the beginning of a monumental partnership. Internationally renowned for delivering the biggest televised poker tournaments in the most prestigious locations worldwide, WPT events are broadcast globally in more than 150 countries and territories.

Running from 15 - 27 September, the WPT Main Tour Gold Coast is tipped to generate an impressive $6 million in prizes and attract a pool of around 3,000 players, with the Main Event prize alone expected to exceed over $3 million.

The Star Gold Coast Chief Operating Officer, Jess Mellor, said WPT would provide a much-needed boost to the local economy with around 80% of players expected to travel to the Gold Coast from domestically or internationally.

“This is a fantastic evolution of our successful long-standing partnership with WPT, we’re absolutely thrilled The Star Gold Coast has secured the WPT Main Tour 2022, and so proud that it will be the first time in the history there’s a stop in Australia.”

“As the Gold Coast’s home of all things entertainment, we are so excited to be welcoming interstate and international poker players back to our shores, shining a spotlight on The Star Gold Coast as one of the best poker venues in the world and providing us with the opportunity to highlight our world-class hospitality too.”

Said Adam Pliska, World Poker Tour CEO: “The passion of Australian poker players combined with Star Gold Coast’s world class venue makes WPT Australia a must-play event for poker players globally. We look forward to seeing the best poker players in the world at The Star Gold Coast this September.”
